Using Giveaway Items for Lead Generation

Using Giveaway Items for Lead Generation

If you’re strategic about how you choose and use your giveaway goodies, you’ll make your budget go further and get the attention of people who are serious about buying from you.

Giveaways for Lead Generation

We’ve talked before about choosing giveaway items and ensuring that you pick something that your audience can keep to remind them of your business.

Before you choose what you’ll give away, however, just like with any other marketing, you need to tailor it to your audience. Getting to know what gets their attention when passing your stand is key. If you’re looking to target technological people, for example, they’ll love earphones, phone stands, mini USB shaver kits and tech-themed t-shirts or mugs with quirky, humorous sayings on them.

If it’s a smaller event with a limited guest list, you could even personalise each item with the attendees’ name to really stand out.

Don’t only rely on your giveaway items

Pens, mugs and mouse mats are also great for catching and keeping attention, but you can only fit so much information on them, so make sure you take along a good balance of both items to give away and marketing materials. While you’ll be the fun place to stop if you’ve got tons of great free goodies, but no promotional materials, you’ll likely attract people who are only looking for those items, and not necessarily for what you sell.

Bring along some well put together marketing materials and you’ll also have something to give good leads who genuinely do want to know more.

Make up a few higher priced, quality items for very promising leads

While cheaper items are great for people who show some interest in your business, you can make a stand-out impression with higher priced items for prospects who are highly likely to buy from you.

If you’ve really thought about what your audience is likely to want, and you present your good prospects with something they can tell is more expensive, they’re likely to feel even better about buying from you. They’ll also take away the feeling that you’re serious about doing business.

These won’t be high-volume items so you won’t break your budget buying hundreds of them, like you would do with pens or mouse mats. Just buy a few for excellent prospects.

Don’t give out your free items randomly

At exhibitions, you see so many companies handing out pens and key rings to everyone who walks past, and while it will usually make people stop, you’re wasting time and money if that’s your strategy.

If people are already walking by your stand without stopping, chances are that they aren’t really interested, and giving them a pen or a tote isn’t going to make them want to buy from you.

So instead of handing out your giveaway items to every passerby, think strategically and only hand them to people who stop and take interest in your stand. That way, you’ll give them to people who are much better leads, save time on trying to convert people who aren’t really interested and save money because you’re not using as many free items.

If you’re strategic about how you choose and use your giveaway goodies, you’ll make your budget go further and get the attention of people who are serious about buying from you.
